...as intrepreted by Thornton & Jamie Davidson
A series of five cooking classes, conducted in a private home, using the same recipes and enthusiasm that made Madeline Davidson one of the most admired teachers and food journalists in the Central Valley. Before the Food Network and countless cooking blogs and websites, Madeline was networking with people about food through her columns and articles in The Fresno Bee and in her cooking school (with Margot Finkle), “What’s Cooking?”.
Madeline’s tradition of making food fun and enlightening is celebrated in these five classes, which are geared for the novice to the moderately proficient cook. With each class, participants will learn about a product of the Central Valley, a new course through which to entertain guests, and new ways to approach food and entertaining.
Classes are limited to 8. The cost is $100.00 for the series. Series runs from July 8, 2010 through August 5, 2010, on consecutive Thursdays. Classes start at 6:00 p.m. and generally take 2 hours.
July 8, 2010 Shifting to Summer: Achieving lighter fare with seasonal ingredients, natural herbs and spices, and snazzy drinks, in the shadow of the soon-to-be blazing sun.
July 15, 2010 But a Dry Heat: How to serve elegantly when even the fish are sweating, includes learning (read: stealing) from the great hot-weather cuisines, such as Arabic, Spanish, and Armenian.
July 22, 2010 Shoeleather & Other delicacies: Eating fanatically cheaply BUT fantastically well; strategies for stretching your dollar without compromising your palate, includes a discussion about raising and growing your own food.
July 29, 2010 Desserts in the Desert?: How to make a tasty dessert that won’t sink below the tan line, including fruit tarts, parfaits, and jello molds (NOT!)
August 5, 2010 Talking Tomatoes: A four course meal devoted to the most tangible of fruits, including a tomato appetizer to die for; a tomato soup borne of the Valley, a bad boy BBQ’d, and tomatoes as sweeteners (can you spell ‘not on my aspic’).
All classes include a light meal, recipes, a discussion of cooking techniques appropriate to the class, and advice on greening your kitchen and cooking. Call Raquel at (559) 256-9800, ext. 21 or email her at raq...@erisalg.com.
